Job Description:
OverviewOur company is currently looking to hire a Medical
Director for a new Outpatient Opioid TreatmentProgram location that
will be opening in Springfield, Ohio. We have been in the Opioid
Treatmentindustry for over 25 years serving the Maryland,
Washington DC, and West Virginia populations.The Medical Director
will need to be on site 8-12 hours per week. The Medical Director
supervises themedical operations of the Program and is medically
responsible for oversight of all enrolled patients. TheMedical
Director provides direction to the medical team and ensures
coordination with the clinicalcounseling team. The Medical Director
must be able to assess individuals applying for admission as wellas
the physical and mental stability for outpatient substance abuse
treatment. The Medical Directormust adhere to federal and state
regulations, accreditation standards, and our company's policies
andprocedures.Minimum RequirementsThe Medical Director must hold a
valid, active State medical license with current State
controlledsubstance registration and federal DEA certificate with
DATA 2000 waiver number, and providedocumentation of renewal on or
before expiration date.Summary of Essential Job Functions:1. The
medical director or physician shall assume responsibility for
administering all medicalservices performed by the program, either
by performing them directly or by delegating specificresponsibility
to authorized program physicians and healthcare professionals
functioning underthe medical director's direct supervision. In
addition, the medical director or physician shall beresponsible for
ensuring that the OTP complies with all applicable Federal, State,
and local lawsand regulations.2. The medical director is
responsible for monitoring and supervising all medical and
nursingservices provided by the OTP. The medical director should
have completed an accreditedresidency training program and have at
least 1 year of experience in addiction medicine oraddiction
psychiatry. Board certification in his or her primary medical
specialty and in addictionpsychiatry or addiction medicine is
preferred. All OTP physicians are urged to complete thetraining in
the use of buprenorphine required by the Drug Addiction Treatment
Act 2000 (DATA2000), even if they do not plan to provide
buprenorphine under office-based opioid treatment(OBOT) rules.3.
The medical director is responsible for assuring all medical,
psychiatric, nursing, pharmacy,toxicology, and other services
offered at the OTP are conducted in compliance with
federalregulations at all times. The medical director should be
present at the program a sufficientnumber of hours to assure
regulatory compliance and carry out those duties
specificallyassigned to the medical director by regulation. The
medical director may directly provide therequired services to the
OTP's patients or assure that the needed services are provided
byappropriately trained and licensed providers in compliance with
federal and state regulation.4. The medical director is the only
person with the authority to make decisions on dispensingopioid
treatment medications to patients for unsupervised use. The medical
director shallconsider the following take-home criteria in
determining whether a patient is responsible inhandling opioid
drugs for unsupervised use:i. Absence of recent abuse of drugs
(opioid or nonnarcotic), including alcohol;ii. Regularity of clinic
attendance;iii. Absence of serious behavioral problems at the
clinic;iv. Absence of known recent criminal activity, e.g., drug
dealing;v. Stability of the patient's home environment and social
relationships;vi. Length of time in comprehensive maintenance
treatment;vii. Assurance that take-home medication can be safely
stored within the patient's home;andviii. Whether the
rehabilitative benefit the patient derived from decreasing the
frequency ofclinic attendance outweighs the potential risks of
diversion.5. The medical director or physician shall:i. Ensure that
evidence of current physiological dependence, length of history
ofaddiction, or exceptions to criteria for admission are documented
in the patient's recordbefore the patient receives the initial
dose;ii. Ensure that a medical evaluation including a medical
history has been taken, and aphysical examination has been done
before the patient receives the initial dose (exceptthat in an
emergency situation, the initial dose may be given before the
physicalexamination);iii. Ensure that appropriate laboratory
studies have been performed and reviewed;iv. Ensure that before
medicating the patient voluntary, written, program-specific
informedconsent to treatment with the specific pharmacotherapy has
been obtained.v. Sign or countersign all medical orders as required
by Federal or State law. The admittingprovider shall date and sign
the recordings in the patient's record within 72 hours
ofadministration. This includes the initial opioid agonist dose to
the patient as well as anydosage adjustments or schedule
changes.vi. Supervise or perform medication order changes (dosage
adjustments);vii. Supervise or perform annual history and
physicals;viii. Educates the person served about their
diagnosis;ix. Attends quality improvement meetings;x. Documents all
patient visits appropriately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
ifapplicable;xi. Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPPA
requirements and (42 CFR Part 2);xii. Keeps current on new
knowledge gained from conferences, workshops,
professionalliterature, or other training and assimilates this
knowledge into clinical practice.Rates are negotiable upon hire
