Job Description: The Office of Human Resources is recruiting for an Assistant Director to join our team. The Assistant Director will provide a wide range of Human Resources generalist services including but not limited to these specialized areas: employee relations, compliance, compensation structure and analysis, performance management, training and development, data analytics, employee engagement, recruitment, and employee life cycle processes. Essential functions include, but are not limited to: Leadership : Manage student worker pool. Lead special projects such as revamping employee life cycle processes, champion equity and inclusion efforts, and fill in for director during absence. Employee Relations : Active involvement in investigations related to internal and external complaints and employee misconduct including assisting with Title IX compliance duties. Assist management in developing performance improvement plans and corrective action documents. Compensation : Conduct compensation reviews and analysis using surveys data to assist director in building a robust compensation structure that will enhance and ensure equity across the campus community. Performance Management : Develop, promote and support performance management programs for all university employees. Assist Director in providing expert advice and counsel for all levels of the campus community to enhance performance management, employee relationships, employee retention and career development. Training and Development : Identify and implement training and development programs to enhance supervisory skills, educate campus community in specialty topics and to comply with higher education compliance requirements. Advise and oversee the design and implementation of training opportunities that will help with professional development of employees. Recruiting: Manage, improve and coordinate the vacancy management/recruiting processes and procedures from sourcing to exiting. Work with departmental leadership to effectively on-board new, promoted, and transfer employees. General HR : Actively promote a culture of positive employee engagement by creating opportunities for increased communication and involvement in HR activities, initiatives, projects, professional development and/or events. Counsel employees throughout the cycle of employment. Assist in maintaining and managing current and relevant HR policies, procedures and processes. Keep current with HR industry trends and recommend new policies and modifications to current human resources policies, procedures and programs. Coordinate and lead special employee events as needed. Manage, analyze, and provide report data and metrics related to HR specific activities. Understand employment laws and regulatory requirements essential to day-to-day operations in higher education HR. Lead efforts to comply with record retention requirements. Requirements: Bachelor's degree, master's degree a plus, and 5 to 8 years of progressive experience in HR. We are especially interested in applicants with knowledge and experience in employee relations, compensation, compliance and vacancy management. Applicants must have the desire and ability for leadership development as part of the university's succession planning initiative. Candidates must have excellent communication skills and the willingness and ability to speak publically to diverse audiences on and off campus and to present information to the campus community for training, development or other communication needs. Additionally, candidates must have excellent organizational skills, the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels, strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making abilities, proficiency with MS Office suite, the ability to meet deadlines and to exercise sound judgment and discretion, the ability to work independently or in team environments, manage multiple tasks and ever-changing priorities, work with sometimes tense circumstances related to individual or groups of employees, and the ability to work under pressure. Must be flexible to work various hours to meet the needs of both HR functionality and employee needs which could include some non-traditional shifts and weekend when needed. Work primarily in a typical office environment with ability to travel across campus for meetings, programs and events. Ability to adapt to different meeting spaces as needed to perform essential duties of position.
